On Jan 30, 2014, the Office of Commercial Affairs, led by Minister (Commercial Affairs) Ms. Benchawan Ukrid, together with other members of the labor working group from the Royal Thai Embassy\u2019s Chancery (Foreign Affairs) and Office of Agricultural Affairs met to discuss Thailand\u2019s current efforts to combat human trafficking and the use of child and forced Labor. The meeting aimed to develop a greater and in-depth understanding of Thailand\u2019s efforts to eliminate such challenges in US audiences.<\/p>\n<p>According to Thailand \u2018s latest Labor Inspection Policy, Labor inspectors immediately prosecute the employer when they detect the use of child labor (under the age of 15), the use of child labor for hazardous work, or any other labor malpractice such as: forced labor, indentured labor and human trafficking. In addition, the Ministry of Labor is in the process of amending related rules and regulations such as the Draft Ministerial Regulation regarding fisheries labor protection to set the minimum age of workers at 18, the Draft Ministerial Regulation regarding agricultural labor protection to prohibit child labor at the age of  13 and under\u2019 and the Ministerial Regulation Prescribing of Standard for Administrator, Management and Performance of Occupational Safety, Health and Environment in relation to Hazardous Chemicals.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Office of Commercial Affairs, Royal Thai Embassy (Washington, DC)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>[dcs_link icon=&#8221;download&#8221;<br \/>\nurl=&#8221;http:\/\/www.commercethaiusa.org\/oca\/wp-content\/uploads\/ENewsletters\/OCANewsletterJan14.pdf&#8221;]Please download the full newsletter here[\/dcs_link].\t\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Royal Thai Embassy takes progressive steps on labor issues WASHINGTON, DC.
