Japan’s Sharp to Continue Investing in Thailand, ‘We still have Trust, Confidence,’ Company says

BANGKOK (Dec. 23, 2011, Bangkok Post) — Sharp, the Japan-based maker of electrical and electronic products, is shrugging off its hardship during the recent floods and insists it will continue its investment in Thailand in its next fiscal year starting April 1.  Despite the flood crisis, the Japanese parent will renew its local investment next year.

Tatsuya Miyagi, managing director of the local distributor Sharp Thai, said the new investment will be made through Sharp Manufacturing Co. whose Nakhon Pathom factory produces TV sets and multifunction copiers.

“We still have trust and confidence in Thailand, so we have no plans to move away from the country. Our business here has been established for a long time,” he said.  The plant in Nakhon Pathom was closed for three months after being surrounded by the floodwaters and resumed production this month.
